Art Studio Rentals
ARTISTS NEEDED — FAITH-BASED ART STUDIO ROOM RENTALS
Are you an artist looking for an inspiring and faith-filled creative space? We’re seeking artists to join our community through room rentals at a unique, faith-based art studio.
ABOUT THE SPACE
The residence is owned by UNCORKbuild, a non-profit prayer and meeting house with a strong community focus.
Three private rooms are available for rent:
Large Room (13’ x 13’ / 169 sq. ft.): $650/month
Medium Room (13’ x 11’ / 143 sq. ft.): $550/month
Small Room (11’ x 11’ / 121 sq. ft.): $450/month
Shared Amenities
Full kitchen, Dining room, Living room, Basement
Common areas may also be reserved for gatherings but are generally open for use. (Cannot use common areas for gatherings of more than 2-3 guests unless rented.)
Lease Terms
At least 6-month commitment. Lower rates for a 12 or 18 month commitment.
Two months’ rent plus a deposit is due at lease signing (e.g., $1,350 for the small room).
Rent includes water and broadband internet. Electricity (including heating and air) is billed separately.
24-hour access. Plenty of parking, but street parking only.
Proof of income and separate residence needed. Must have a separate residence and spend 90% of your overnight time (12a-8a) at your residence.
Room sharing is allowed; both tenants must sign the lease and split rent equally.
ABOUT YOU
Dedicated, community-minded, serious about your craft.
You see art as a reflection of divine creativity and strive for excellence in your work.
Preferably have already achieved a BA or MA.
Self-taught artists welcome, but you should demonstrate long-term self-education (e.g., mentors, craft education, aesthetic development).
All artists should share a website or social media site and clear pics of their work.
You are interested in collaboration, discussion, and spiritual growth within a creative faith-based community, inner and outer spiritual work is important to you. You take your spiritual, artistic and relational growth seriously. You are interested in collaboratively curating the space with Zia Hooker to facilitate worship, prayer, gallery shows, and community.
ABOUT US
We are Jesus followers with progressive views.
Theologically, we believe in a God the Father, the Mother Holy Spirit, and Jesus the Anointed one.
We are active in Charismatic prayer and also welcome people of any faith tradition who share a deep sense of God's love.
We will be facilitating prayer meetings with a Christ-following emphasis. All faiths are welcome to come to these meetings. The prayer and public meeting function is reserved for a Christian Spirit-led emphasis unless gatherings are private, i.e. gallery showings, private parties, etc.
God’s love for us means that we are not believers in eternal conscious torment, nor do we believe that people must be conscious followers of Jesus to understand the spirit of Christ and his mandate to love. We believe that if someone strives to love, they already follow the Spirit of Christ.
We understand this verse to be central as Christ followers: “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me.”
We want to partner with those who agree on this as a central tenant as artists and community activists.
We do value the presence of the Holy Spirit in our work and relationships. A central value for us is freedom to walk in the Spirit. It is our intention to draw in artists and community who follow this as a central value.
ABOUT UNCORKbuild
UNCORKbuild was founded by Zia Hooker to facilitate prayer, creativity and community building in Detroit Metro Area.
Zia is an interdisciplinary artist with two MArch degrees in architecture – one from UC Denver and another from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Before arriving in Michigan, she worked in the Washington DC area on high-end residential properties, historic reuse projects such as embassies and schools, as well as small commercial retrofit projects.
Currently her work spans fiber, craft, large-scale installation, and performance.
She enjoys Spirit-led healing prayer, connecting with friends, art making, movement studies, and spending time with her husband Dave and two GSP’s Buddy and Jovie.
Central to her work and life is understanding resonance and frequency connection around people, land, communities. She seeks to facilitate life-giving resonance wherever she can. She has spent many years rewiring her nervous system for positive connection with God and others, and is now busy creating connections that support her creativity, spirituality and life through intuitive resonance.
